3D laser scanners in crime scene investigations have really helped investigators that are gathering the data at a crime scene. The scanners are very critical in preserving the information and creating effective presentations for trials. Whether it is being used for a major crime scene, such as a homicide, or traffic accident, they are very effective and analyze and present information clearly. One of the most important benefits of the laser scanner is the fact that it reduces the amount of time it takes for investigators to fully clear a crime scene while still capturing a lot of information. The laser scanner can capture data much more precisely than any other device, or an investigator's hand. While working with a small scene, the scanner takes up to 10 minutes and setting up the scanner is actually the hardest/longest part.
The reason this scanner is so beneficial is because investigators and departments do not have to spend so much time processing and gathering all the information because the machine will do it for them. Also, if there is an accident on the road, and an officer is trying to gather information they are at risk of an injury, especially on a busy road, so using this machine reduces the risk tremendously. It cuts down the amount of traffic that is held up from an accident due to all the commotion or investigators on scene. Also, the data is preserved digitally, meaning investigators can use the stored crime scene data to continue their investigates. With officers not using this electronic machine, can write down any information and it could be lost instantly. By using the digitally preserved object, they can go back and virtually look at all the measurements. To conclude, the new laser scanners offer a new way of collecting, storing, and presenting crime scene data that improves upon the methods currently being used by any department across the country.
I have nothing bad to say about this article. It was extremely informative, and I had a great time reading about this new scanner. The scanner seems very beneficial to investigators and it is definitely going to further our technology and efficiency. There could have been more information how how the technology is transforming and how is different than any other piece of technology we have used. The article explained that is was more efficient, and easier to store, collect, and present the information but the article did not explain how that is the case.

Lily picked a good article that represents an important and innovative new technology in the field of forensics. She explained the scope of this invention, and how it will be useful in all sorts of investigations and crime scenes. Also, she gave specific examples of these various uses for the scanner, including in homicides and traffic accidents. All in all, Lily clearly depicted the scanner as a great step forward for forensics and an innovation that would make investigators jobs easier.
The largest thing missing from her review was more about exactly what the scanner does that makes it so much better and faster than current methods. There were some key details about how the device functions that were left out and made it a little unclear as to what the scanner brought to the table. The review could have also benefited from her giving ideas about what can still be improved and if there are any real flaws left that could make using this new scanner a bit troublesome.
I think this is an interesting invention and a good article. The article itself contained a ton of information about practical applications of this new laser scanner is changing forensics as we know. It was a great read.
The article Lily chose introduces an innovative new technology in the field of forensics — the 3D laser scanner. She comprehensively explained its features; how it will contribute in investigations and analysis of crime scenes through examples various use of the scanner. It also helps reduce the time investigators spend on processing information. Overall, Lily thoroughly presented the advantages in the use of 3D laser scanner.
What I found lacking from her review was the scanner’s function and its efficiency compared to the technology used at present. She also could have checked her grammar before publishing the review since some of the parts were awkwardly put, for example, “if there is an accident on the road, and an officer is trying to gather information they are at risk of an injury, especially on a busy road, so using this machine reduces the risk tremendously.” The review would have been compelling if she critiqued the article on what can be improved.
I was impressed on the new upcoming technology and how it will immensely make the process of investigation efficient. As for the article, it provided many details on the applications of this new laser scanner, which I was able to learn about it more in depth.

The article that Lily chose was very interesting. It was about a fascinating new technology that is revolutionizing the field of forensics. She had a great combination of factual material and opinionated content. It really opened my eyes to how useful in forensic investigation the 3D laser scanner is. Overall I thought that Lily did a fantastic job at summarizing this article. She could consider using facts from an outside source to create a literary piece that leaves the reader with no questions.
I thought that there were many things well done in this article review. One of the things Lilly did well in her review was picking an interesting article that has a lot of relevance to modern forensics science. Another thing that I thought was done well was her describing the relevance of the subject of her article to the forensics world. This is probably the main component of these current event reviews so it is great to see that the review is properly being done. Finally, I thought that Lilly did a good job explaining the features of the 3D Laser Scanner very comprehensively and thoroughly. It was easy to understand and it made the review that much better to read.
While I thought Lilly did many things well, one of the things I thought she could have done better was describing exactly what the scanner does that makes it so much more practical than current methods. Another thing she could have done better was more shrewdly analyzing the scanner and the article itself.
Finally, I found it interesting to see the new and upcoming technology that is growing in the forensics world. It is shocking to see how far we have come in terms of technology and this just goes to show how far we truly have come.

I thought that lily did a great job at summarizing the article in a decently sized review. It didnt appear to paraphrase, or give too brief of an overview on the article, which was good. I liked how she included her opinion in the matter, as well as a good reason as to why the technology written about is important. I also liked how she described the 3D laser Scanners without using too much or too little technical detail. I think that the review could be improved by eliminating several small grammatical errors, as well as elaborate just a little bit more on the technical details of the 3D scanner. I found this technology to be very interesting, and I thought that it could have a very practical use in the near future.

I read the review by Lilly Grass of the article, “How 3D laser scanners are changing crime scene investigations”. She did a good job with reviewing this article. One thing I thought she did well was that she described the 3D laser scanner and how they help in investigations in order to gather data at the crime scene. She said that the scanners were critical in an investigation to preserve the information and create an effective presentation for the trials that would be coming up. She also did a good job describing the benefits of the laser scanner. One benefit that she said was that it reduced the amount of time it would take investigators to fully clear a crime scene while it still captured a lot of information. She also said that it can capture data more precisely than any other device. Another thing I thought she did well was saying the negative about it which is only one thing. The only negative to the scanner is that it takes up to 10 minutes to scan. Another benefit she said about the scanner was that investigators and departments do not have to spend that much time processing and gathering all the information because they have the machine to do that for them. Even though Lilly had done an amazing job describing the aspects of the article, there are two things that I noticed that could use work on. She could have given us an example of a case where the scanner was used, so we can put it in perspective on the main purpose of it. Another thing I noticed was that there could have been more information comparing the new technology to a past technology, but that was the articles fault for not providing that. I learned a lot through this article! I learned that there is a new technology that could change the way investigators go through a crime scene which could be more productive and effective when trying to find suspects or a perp.

I enjoyed reading the article and the review of “How 3D Laser Scanners Are Changing Crime Scene Investigations,” and learned many new interesting things and enjoyed reading both. I liked how much the author of the review emphasized how important this 3D laser printer is to investigators and criminal investigations. The scanners are very critical in preserving the information and creating effective presentations for trials. Also, I liked Lilly talked about how this piece of technology is different from the previous forms of technology because these are very time efficient. Lastly, I liked how information Lilly was about this topic, I learned so much and now understand how important this technology is and how significant it could be to investigations and investigators.
Even though this article and review were very informative, it did have some negatives. First, it did not compare this new 3D laser printer to the previous forms of technology used in investigations, so I did not know how this differed. Also, I did not like how Lilly did not talk about using this printer in real investigations, it would have been better if she talked about a case where this was used. But, I overall enjoyed this review.
I learned many new things when reading this article. First, since I am not informed about the technology used in investigations and used by investigators, I learned about a 3D printer that can significantly impact the world of criminal investigations in a good way. Also, I learned how important this printer is and how it can change the future of forensic investigations. This changed my perspective because now I am aware of the technology used in investigations. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to learn more about this discovery.
