Jennifer Dulos: Blood Found in Trash Matches That of Missing Connecticut Mother of Jennifer Dulos: Blood Found in Trash Matches That of Missing Connecticut Mother of 5” Gold, Michael. The New York Times , 3 June 2019. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/03/nyregion/missing-mom-jennifer-dulos.html

Following the increasing evidence and stories, Gold speaks to the recent and most accurate facts in his article, “Jennifer Dulos: Inside the Turbulent Marriage of the Missing Connecticut Mother of 5 following Jennifer Dulos’ case.  Mother of five, Jennifer Dulos disappeared on May 24th after dropping her kids off at school.  Jennifer Dulos has been in a two year ugly divorce with her husband Fotis battling for custody.  Jennifer claims she was worries about Fotis’s, “irrational, unsafe, bullying, threatening and controlling behavior.” The night Dulos went missing police found “blood stains and splatters at her home that would lead them to conclude she had been the victim of a serious physical assault.” On that same night, they have Dulos and his girlfriend dumping bags in dumpsters throughout Hartford, Connecticut.  Police searched these bags finding blood stains of Jennifers and sponges. Next, Dulos and Michelle Troconis were arrested on charges of hindering prosecution evidence and tampering. Soon after they found Jennifer's missing Black Chevrolet Suburban in Waveny Park. The last major piece of evidence to note was blood splatter in Jennifers garage. Detectives also found evidence that someone had attempted to clean the crime scene.  Searching all of Connecticut police still cannot find Jennifer’s body.

DNA evidence is everything to a forensic scientist, and there is lots of it in this case. For example, it is shocking how they can trace Jennifer's DNA through the fosit in her kitchen.  And how the detectives were able to detect soap as a result of trying to clean blood. However, not being able to find Jennifer's body has prevented detectives and the police to charge Fotis with Murder.  But, with evidence from Jennifer's home, the night where He dropped off several bags of blood and Jennifers clearly presented fear of her safety from her husband my guess is police will be charging Fotis with the murder of his wife.

Consequently, I think this article was really well written and did a great job of describing each specific event in the timeline in this case.  I also thought, Gold did a great job in describing each person's case and not being a bias towards Jennifer or Fotis. Some areas where this article falls short is describing what is next for this case ; and also what the most likely next events are for Fotis following his court appearances.  To improve this article I would try and better describe the technology and procedures that went into the DNA and blood investigation for detectives to conclude all this information. For example, briefly talking about how they matches Jennifer's blood to the stains on the clothing or Garage. This would improve the technicality of the article and therefore better the readers understanding.

Three things that Jimmy did that really enhanced the writing was evidence, vocabulary and lots of quotes. Having a lot of evidence from the article allowed the reader to know exactly where the information comes from and that none of it is made up or false. Using large vocabulary of words made it so the writing was not boring or dull to read. Including many quotes allowed the reader to truly understand from a first hand perspective what the author was trying to portray. Two areas of improvement would be to add more details about how this relates to the forensic knowledge that we are using in class. Another improvement that could be made would be to add more quotes, while there are quotes, adding more may make it so there is more of a primary source to back up the argument. From reading this I learned that forensic scientists are able to discover DNA is places you may not expect that you think they could or would such as the faucet in a kitchen.

"Jennifer Dulos: Blood Found in Trash Matches That of Missing Connecticut Mother of 5"

For this current event, I read Jimmy’s article discussing the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos, a Connecticut mother of five. Jimmy first talks about the two year ugly divorce Jennifer with her husband Fotis, battling for custody. This is key information as it provides details into Jennifer’s unhealthy relationship with her husband, resulting in a possible theory as to how or why she went missing. This piece of evidence also draws attention to her husband, a possible suspect. Next, Jimmy notes that the police found blood stains and splatters at her home. This is extremely important as this lead police to conclude that Jennifer was a victim of serious physical assault the night she went missing. Jimmy follows this point with other vital pieces of evidence that strongly indicate Futos is a major suspect in this case. Jimmy’s final point mentions the importance of DNA in investigations, a key element of this case. This is an important note to make because DNA was very prominent in this investigation. The forensic scientists even traced Jennifer’s through the fosit, in her kitchen. Additionally, the forensic scientists were able to detect soap as an attempt to clean blood. This leads to an assumption that someone was trying to cover up this crime scene, an assumption that was only possible through DNA.

I really enjoyed this write up and I believe Jimmy noted many important elements of this case. However, I believe Jimmy could have better explained the night where Dulos was dumping bags in dumpsters in Hartford, Connecticut. I’m unclear whether Jimmy meant Fotus was doing these actions, so this part of the write up made the case a bit confusing. In future current events, Jimmy should re-read his write up to ensure it makes sense. Additionally, Jimmy could have better explained the procedures that went into the DNA and blood investigations in order for the detectives to make their conclusions, such as the strong accusation that Fotis should be charged with murder. Describing the scientific procedures will provide a more insightful current event and can help the audience better understand steps detectives take when making conclusions.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this current event. I admire Jimmy’s way of creating a flow between different points in order to better understand the important elements and procedures of this case. I chose this current event because I love reading about investigations involving missing people and reading about how the detectives piece together evidence in order to make a valid conclusion. However, Jessica’s body was never found and this is very eye opening. Despite all of the evidence found and procedures taken, the case is still not closed and Jessica is still missing. This is very telling how much effort goes into an investigation, even when in the end, many answers are still not found.
