I read the recent article “Body of Florida Man Missing 17 Years Discovered. Homicide Investigation Underway.” In 2000 Mike Williams was declared missing after never returning from a solo duck hunting trip on a Florida Lake. After searching for his body for 44 days, Investigators declared that Williams must have drowned and his body was eaten by alligators. This however did not fully close the case. When law investigators were tipped off with “new information” they reopened the search investigation and found Mike William’s body 50 miles from his original hunting spot. Williams best friend, Brian Winchester, and widowed wife Denise Williams have been called into question on the mysterious murder of Mike Williams.
Because this is an recently new and ongoing investigation there was very little information let out to the public by investigators. This did not help readers further understand what the next steps were being taken in the investigation. There was also no reference to forensic science and technology being used to process and analyze William’s remains, although they mentioned that the body had been so well preserved they knew exactly how he died even though it had been almost two decades ago. The article could have included quotes or statements from the wife, best friend, or any one involved in the investigation on the law enforcement side. This would have brought much needed life and additional information to the article and for the readers. In a follow up article on updates of the case, the author should provide a very in depth and descriptive account of how the investigation has progressed and where it is headed. The direction of where the investigation is going currently was lost and that would have been very helpful.

This article caught my eye because it had recently been updated. I am interested in homicide and murder investigations and this piece really caught my eye. I hope that the author will include more information on the forensic science being used in this case and how it connects the victim to its perpetrator. I am excited to read the future articles on this case and to see if it attracts nationwide coverage.

Lucy's response to the Body of the Florida Man Missing 17 Years Discovered. Homicide Investigation Underway, is a great summary and provides a good perspective on this issue. This homicide investigation is extremely interesting because it shows how the forensic process worked in those days not so long ago. When his body went missing they blamed it on him drowning in the ocean and then alligators ate him which is very sketchy just to begin with. Once new information was found out about the case after further investigating, very little was kept to the public. They with held all evidence in the beginning of this case because of how wrong they were to begin with. As said in the summary, This did not help readers further understand what the next steps were being taken in the investigation.
This relates to forensics because it shows the evolution of how cases were run and how they are now run. In this field accuracy is so key and when a non accurate statements are made people can get angry. A very exciting thing to read about but must be very hard to go through. Cases like these set great examples in the future for the field of forensics.
This was a great response. It made a lot of sense that I related to well. I like when we cans see the over all growth of fronensics.

The first point well presented in Lucy’s current is the way in which he first summarized the article, “Body of Florida Man Missing 17 Years Discovered. Homicide Investigation Underway.”, effectively by avoiding to many details but portraying the entire story without leaving anything out. The is important because sometimes when writers summarize they often tell the entire story over again which is unnecessary. Another aspect of the review that was well written was Lucy’s transition from the summary of the article to why the article is important. Without saying why the article is important to forensic science, the review means nothing in the context of the class. Finally, Lucy did a good job putting her own opinion about the article in the end of her review; making sure his opinion did not affect how she wrote the beginning of the article.
One point that would make the review better was by saying why he liked the article with more description. At the end of his review, she said the article was a “good read” but did not fully elaborate why. Another critique of Lucy’s article is the grammatical errors in the review. For example Lucy wrote, “Finding like this in any case are extremely important…”
One thing that I learned from this review is how important and life changing a DNA sample can be in terms of money and wealth. I did not realize that DNA could not only solve crimes but also be financially beneficial to people.

From Lucy’s review of , “Body of Florida Man Missing 17 Years Discovered. Homicide Investigation Underway.”, I felt that I was able to learn many new things that she explained. Lucy incited many great details in her review. For example, Lucy did a good job explaining the background of the story and kept the timeline throughout the review very clear. This made it easy for readers to understand her review. Secondly, Lucy added quotes from the article which gives the reader another incite about what others thought about the case. For example, Lucy used the quote “Finding like this in any case are extremely important…” Also, I thought Lucy did a good job on adding her own thoughts and opinions into the review rather than just straight facts.
Although, Lucy could add a few more ideas to her review to make it perfect. First, I think that Lucy should add more about the forensics part of the crime. Along with this, there are parts where Lucy can make her point more clear and concise through the review.
Overall, I think Lucy did a good job summarizing the article and adding his own thoughts and opinions. I found this review interesting and informative because I have never heard of this case and I am happy Lucy brought up this article for her review.
