Computer Game 'Tetris' May Help Reduce Flashbacks To Traumatic Events

A new report out finds that playing ‘Tetris’ after traumatic events could reduce the flashbacks experienced in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to preliminary research by Oxford University psychologists. If this early-stage work continues to show promise, it could inform new clinical interventions for use immediately after trauma to prevent or lessen the flashbacks that are the hallmark symptom of PTSD. Existing treatments can only be provided once PTSD has become established. The group is now hoping to develop this approach further as a potential intervention to reduce the flashbacks experienced in PTSD, but they are keen to emphasise that these are only preliminary results. Dr Holmes also stresses that no conclusions can be drawn more generally for computer gaming and its effects.

I think this was a very well written summary of the article and think that it was a good topic of choice. I like how you found an article that no one has done before and how the psychologists are finding ways to "treat" PTSD. The only thing about this article is that i dont understand how this actually has to do with forensics and i think that it should have said something about how tetris gets rid of PTSD. I did learn that games of some sorts can take your mind away from other thoughts and get rid of PTSD in many peoples minds.

This is a very interesting article. Who knew that such a fun game could have a use in the real world? Even though that no conclusions can be drawn for otehr games and their effects, I find this extremely interesting. I think it could be improved through telling us specific cases and their results as well.

I thought that this was a really interesting article to choose and was summarized in a very clear way. It's pretty remarkable that something as simple as a game of tetris could potentially help those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Though its unfortunate that no definitive conclusions could be drawn, I like how psychologists are thinking out of the box to treat PTSD. For the article i wish how the tests were carried out and the results of the tests were included.

This not only was a very well written article, but it was extemely interesting topic. Normally people either post summerys about a forensic science that is so complex that they sound like they have no idea what they are talking about or they post something that is so completely ridiculous you dont want to comment on it. This was very interesting and very well done.

This was a very interesting article. It was well written and a good topic to write about. I would have liked to know a little bit more about how playing tetris exactly can help to reduce flashbacks. I enjoyed reading about a fun videa game rather than another topic.

I thought this was a good summary and an interesting read. Its amazing that something like a video game can have positive effects on trauma. This article doesn't really factor into forensic science, though, nor does it describe the "hows" of the treatment that the video game provides.

I think James did a great job summarzing the article. It was well written as well as being very intersting

James, good article. I had no idea that playing certain types of video games would treat ptsd. The article could have possibly gone into examples of the disorder, but nonetheless was informative.

I think that James did a good job in explaining the article. This wasnt like any other topic that people usually post on the blogs and it was something that everyone can relate too since most people at one point in time have played Tetris. Good work.

Donner did a very nice job with this current event review. Some things that he particularly presented well include an interesting topic, a good basic analysis of the article, and an example of how modern technology advancing to new purposes. I think the article could have been made better if it linked the subject to the field of forensics and perhaps more detail. Overall, i leaned that ordinary things such as video games can be tested for use of other purposes.
