Pesticides Are In For It Now

Zurich chemists have developed a new method to detect pesticide residues on food. Renato Zenobi, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry and his doctoral student Matthias Jecklin have developed a mass spectrometric method enabling pesticide residues in foodstuffs to be detected quickly. This could have many other applications besides detecting chemicals in food.
Although this method using mass spectrometry can analysis chemicals quickly and accurately, it cannot determine amount of the substance present.

It can also be used in forensic or medical purposes. For instance, this method could detect explosive material, toxins, human sweat or even drugs or diseases.

This review was very interesting, because it clearly deals with an issue very pertinent to everyday life, can be applied to many fields of science, and could improve health measures in the future. However, it was a little short, and could use more description of the process itself. That being said, it was very informative and piqued my interest in the topic.

This was a very interesting review, and I liked that it was relevant to the topics we have studied in class. I also liked that you described the different areas this new method of mass spectrometry could be used, such as medical and forensic uses. Two things you could have done to improve are describe exactly how the method works, and give more details on the importance of the new method. I thought it was very interesting that mass spectrometry could be used to detect pesticides on food.

This article was very interesting and relevant to topics we have studied, such as mass spectrometry and detecting drugs. The author did a good job explaining its uses, and downfalls. To improve, he could have included a little more detail.

This was a good article for the author to choose because it is relevent to what we do in class. This was a very well written and interesting article. I thought the author did a good job of describing how this new method works. However, I think he could have been a little more detailed in the article.
