This article talked about a case west of Salt Lake City, Utah. Analysis of hair is a good way to tell what was going on in the body that it grew on. Now, it is being used more creatively than ever before in forensics science labs. Two scientists at the University of Utah, James Ehleringer and Thure Cerling, founders of Isoforensics Inc, which uses stable isotope analysis of forensic substances to find slight variations in chemical elements’ various isotopes. Ehleringer says, “Hair is a good trap for all those things flowing through the blood system.” Traces of things in and around the body can be found in the hair. This is interesting because by looking at the hair, one will be able to tell more about the life lived by the victim. The victim from Utah is unknown, but with these new methods, studying a few stands of her hair, looking at the various isotopes, scientists were able to determine that she had been living in the area for two years of her life. Hair also makes a good forensic tool because it tends to stick around at crime scenes and various places. “A single hair can determine a person’s location during the past weeks or even years,” says Cerling. This method can also help in proving or disproving alibis. It helps determine who was where at which times.

The first thing I liked about the article was it gave a reason hair analysis was used other than the main reason of the article. The second thing I liked about the article it gave the name of the scientists and their background information. I also liked how it explained what these scientists company specifically did. One thing that could have been improved is explained how the hair is analyzed. Another thing would be to explain why isotopes help when analyzing hair. I learned that by analyzing hair you can tell where a person has been.

There were three main things that I liked about this article. First of all, it was concise leading me to not be bored with unimportant details. Secondly, it is very on topic with what we are doing, as we have just recently finished studying hair. Finally, I liked the fact that both scientists are quoted at one point or another.
One thing that bothered me was some repetition. For example, the last two sentences mean basically the same thing so the simpler version is not necessary. The other thing about this review that I did not like as much was the fact that it did not say how looking at isotopes could show the scientist this information.
The main thing that I learned from this review was that the hair can tell you a lot more about a person than just DNA and your race.

I enjoyed this article, because I found it interesting how the analysis of hair can be such a significant component to a criminal case. As well as that, we have just finished our unit on hair, so I liked dealing with an article I was familiar with and could relate to. Another reason this presentation impressed me, was because I learned about a different method in studying hairs I was unaware of before: scientists study a few strands of hair and look at the various isotopes and are then able to determine where the person lived and for approximately how long. However, one component of this review that bothered me was the fact that they didn’t mention the actual crime being presented. They only discussed their use of hair in finding where the victim lived for the past two years. Finally, the part that impressed me about this article was that hair can not only tell a scientists a person’s race and DNA, but also their recent residence, which is something I never knew before.

I thought this article was very interesting. This article was very insightful as it showed multiple ways hair analysis could be used. It was also interesting because it related to the subjects we had just finished studying in our labs. It was also very concise about the scientists, and what they did with their work. However, one thing that i didn't like so much about this article was how it was kind of vague, and didn't explain how the hair was analyzed very much. It also didn't really explain how the scientists gained their data using their methods of hair analysis. This article gave me a greater knowledge about the uses of hair analysis and how it can show a scientist more about a person's whereabouts.

The parts of this review that were well written were how he didn't just jump into the facts, how he gave us information on who the scientists are, not just quoting them, and how he explained the quotes that he put into the review. This review could have been made better by perhaps including how a hair can determine the person's location during the past weeks or perhaps including a link to the article so we could read the article for ourselves. From this review I learned that hair has become a very important forensic tool.

I really enjoyed this articles, there were three main things that I enjoyed about this article and review. Firstly, the review was very on topic with what we are currently learning and studying. Secondly, the article was concise and very to the point. Finally, I really enjoyed that both scientists voices and views are expressed throughout the review.

One thing that I didn't enjoy was the constant repeating throughout the article. The other thing about this article that I did not like was that it failed to mention exactly how looking at isotopes could show the scientist this information.

The main thing that I learned from this article and review was how much information a strand of hair can give you, other then what we learned in class which was race and gender.

One part of this review that I thought was particularly well presented was the part that hair can hold so much information. It can show traces of thing that were in and around the body. Another aspect of the review that was well presented was that from this information and medical examiner can study the person’s life and understand certain events in that person life. A third part of this review that I liked was that it showed how hair is a good forensic tool because it can be found all over a crime scene and it can lead to the identification of a victim or suspect.

One suggestion that I have for this review is to talk more about how these isotopes help forensic scientists. And what the use of the isotopes does for the examination. Another suggestion would be to talk about how hair can show certain events in a person life, and how a forensic examiner can find these characteristics.

What id dint know before I read this article was just how much information a strand of hair can provide. I thought that hair could only give a forensics scientists DNA. Now I know that an examiner can see what has been around or in the body and for how long and so many other things that help in a crime investigation.

Precise and captivating, leaving no room for unimportant details. I enjoyed that it was on topic with what we just finished, the focus on hair. The experts were quoted which is a bonus for me, and I liked the fact that they were spread apart and not just back to back.

Elaborate on the isotopes. Tell us how isotopes can tell scientists this information. I also had a problem with repetition. There is no need for the simpler version of the last sentence for the message was received after the first.

A hair is a power=packed piece of evidence. With it one can tell a lot more about you than just your race.

Three things i liked:
1. I really liked how this article showed less important reasons for hair than the main one.
2. The second thing i liked was how this article desribed how hair is a major forensic tool because there is so much hair at the crime scene.
3. The last thing i liked about this article that both scientist are quoted in the article getting both sides of this.

Two things i didnt like:
1. I didnt like how this article was how much of it repeated.
2. Another thing i didnt like was that the article didnt show how hair is important to peoples personal lives.

One thing I learned:
I thing i learned from this article was that hair could reveal personal information of peoples lives.

Three aspects of this article that I found interesting where how he explained how scientists are learning to study the isotopes found in hair to identify more about the victim. I also found it interesting that now scientists are able to study where and for how long a person had been in a certain location because the hair carries all the information which is found can't be found in blood. I also liked how he explained who the scientists where who found this study on isotopes.
Two things I would suggest is explaining a little bit more about what isotopes are. I would also suggest to talk a little bit how hair helps in forensic science today and how this can improve what we know already. Finally one thing I learned was that now you can not only study what kinds of drugs are in the body based on hair but forensic science can now study the location of a person based on their hair.

Charlie summarized an article about a crime near Salt Lake City, Utah. I liked that it had to do with a topic we recently reviewed, hair. Also, I found it interesting how important hair can be to a crime scene. In addition, the background information about the scientists was helpful before jumping into the crime itself.

To improve this summarization, a few sentences could have been removed because they say almost the same thing. Also, more information about how the isotopes help the scientists would have been helpful.

From this article I learned that scientists are actually able to locate a person just by obtaining a single strand of hair.
