Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case

Schuetze, Christopher F. “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 30 Oct. 2017, https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/30/world/europe/anne-frank-cold-case-investigation.html

The article by Christopher F. Schuetze explains the hardships of Anne Frank went through with her family while they were hiding out during World War 2. Anne Frank said that she heard a little knock on the wall and she did not know what to think of it. Then four weeks later in August of 1944 the police discovered the hideout during a  raid and arrested her and the other people that were hiding with her. Recently there has been talk about who told the police and they want to figure out how the police could have found it without getting a tip. They want to take a three-dimensional scan of the original house and using computer models to determine how far sounds might have traveled.
There were many stories like this one during World War 2 where families would be hiding out underground or in someone's attic and they get caught by the police. There were many tips to the police back then because they never wanted to get caught hiding people so they would set them up as a trap. There is always an explanation to why things happen and in this case Anne Frank could have been set up by someone who knocked on the wall four weeks before they got arrested. This could have been a setup or it could have been a warning, we will never know that reason but we can cross out the explanation that the police just happened to find them.

Overall, I thought this was a very well informing article that really got into details about Anne Frank and the layout of their hiding space. If there was one thing that I would change would be the layout of the article. I thought that they had a lot of backstory, which is nice to have if you did not know that story already, but I thought the forensic part of the article came too late and there was not much about it. In conclusion, I think for it to be categorized as a forensic article there should be a little more forensic and a little less backstory.

Hayley does a great job summarizing the article. I thought that her summarization had a great flow to it I really enjoyed reading it. She also did a great job explaining the writer's points while including her own points into the review. She also did a great job explaining the technology so it was easy for the reader to understand. This really helped me understand what was happening and that made me keep reading.
Although Hayley’s review was great there were somethings that I would suggest editing. For starters, she could have used some more quotes so that the reader really got a look at what the author was saying. She also could have used some more detail when explaining what happened to Anne Frank.
Overall I thought that this review was very informative, and it is definitely something that I would want to look into later.

I really enjoyed Hayley's Article on Anne Frank's Hiding spot during World War ll. Hayley does a great job of describing where Anne Frank's Hiding spot and how the police are a three-dimensional scan of the original house and using computer models to determine how far sounds might have traveled. She also did a great job taking about the tips and the step ups back up in World War ii and how someone might of been trying to warn them. Finally she did a good job with the flow of the article and describing some of the complicated events.

If I had to pick two things to improve I would of wanted to hear more about the forensics of the events and how all these people stayed together for weeks. Also I would of wanted to hear more about the backstory and just more detail about all the police investigation and how there are looking into the house.

Overall I though Hayley did a great job with the article and this was a very interesting read. I also learned about the history of Anne Frank and how modern technology could solve ancient mysteries

I read Hayleys’s review of the article entitled, “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case” by Christopher F. Schuetze, and I thought it was overall a very good critique. I thought that Hayley did a very concise job of summarizing the article, and her topic was made very clear. I also enjoyed the use of quotes, which helped strengthen her summary as well. I also liked how Hayley included her own opinion on the article at the end of the critique in detail, which helped to strengthen it overall.

Although I overall enjoyed Hayley’s critique, there are certain things that could have been improved. I think that Hayley could have included more of her opinion on the article as opposed to just talking about the facts of the article in detail. I also think that correcting a few grammatical errors would make her critique much clearer and easier to follow.

I really enjoyed Hayley’s critique overall, and I found this article to be very interesting. I chose to review Hayley’s critique as I wanted to learn about this article in detail.

In this article Hayley does a great job summarizing the main points. I thought that her summarization had a great flow to it I really enjoyed reading it. Although Hayley’s review was great there were somethings that I would suggest editing. For example, she could have used some more quotes so that the reader really got a look at what the author was saying and it could have highlighted the key points of the article. She also could have used some more detail when explaining what happened to Anne Frank and more historical context would be nice.
Overall I thought that this review was quite informative and I believe that I learned a lot of information from it that I didn't not know before.

Hayley wrote an informative summary of an article that talks of plans to do a three dimensional scan of the attic hideout Anne Frank stayed in leading up to her death. She gave a lot of great background information on Anne Frank's story. She also included interesting information on the tips people would reports to nazis during the time Anne and her family were hiding out.

One thing that Hayley could have done better was provide more information on the actual forensics going on with this 3 dimensional scan. No real detail was provided on the science behind the article which would’ve helped relate it to the forensics blog. ANother thing I think would help was some quotes from the articles.

I think this article was interesting because it shows how modern forensic technology can shed more light on cases as influential and infamous as Anne Frank.

I thought Hayley did a great job on her current events review. She provided lots of relevant details about Anne Frank’s story making her review informative and interesting. Hayley did a nice job relating Frank’s story and the forensic investigations of her hideout to the greater holocaust, remaining sensitive to all the victims. I agreed with Hayley’s criticism that the original article did not talk enough about the forensic experiments on the hideout. While Frank’s story is truly amazing, most people are already familiar with it and would be more interested in hearing about the new discoveries relating to the hideout.
Hayley’s review would have benefited from direct quotes from the original article. Her review also had a few minor typos and misused adverbs, but this did not affect the content of the review in any way.
I am very impressed that forensic technology can help us further understand history from almost 100 years ago. That’s truly amazing and I am sure that forensic technology will continue to affect our understanding of historical events.

Hayley did a good job on her review of “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case,” by Christopher F. Schuetze. She did a good job in providing a possible explanation to why Anne Frank and her family were caught, as well as connecting the story to other stories from the time period. She also did a good job in providing a detailed summary in her review of Schuetze’s article. I thought that Hayley also did a good job in explaining briefly how agents were planning on determining how far sounds traveled throughout Frank’s living area.
Although Hayley’s review was mainly well done, there were some aspects which could have helped to improve her review. I wished that she had incorporated more of the forensic side of the story even if there was not very much. I thought that it would have helped make her review better if she had also added quotes from those who were involved such as the agents.
Hayley’s review of “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case,” by Christopher F. Schuetze was very informative and interesting to read. I found it interesting to learn how much of an impact forensic technology has on the present and past. In using such advantages we now have in forensics, scientists are able to uncover the stories that caused so much confusion and wonder and be able to give an explanation.

In hayley's review of the article "Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case" Hayler does a good job using the article to explain what it was like for Anne Frank while living in the hideout especially when the police found the hideout. She did a good job explaining the possible reasons for the police finding the hideout. And she did a good job talking about what scientists will do to answer the numerous questions.

Two things Hayley could have incorporated were some quotes from the scientists on the case, there are just a few minor typos but they didn't effect the true meaning of the story and her review of the article.

In the end I enjoyed reading this review and it's fascinating that in today's world we could use technology to help us determine what happened a long time ago. This can help us find answer to questions we have been asking for hundreds of years.

This week my classmate Hayley Berry did a current event on the article “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case.” This article was written Christopher F.
Schuetze for the New York Times. The piece talks about finding who betrayed Anne Frank. The first thing that surprised me was that there was a suspicious knock on the wall four weeks before the Franks got caught. We all know the story of Anne Frank, but the smaller details we might not know. Secondly, I thought it was interesting how they're using computer scans of the building to see how far sound can travel. I thought that it was really cool that they could use a scan of a building to find out how far sound could travel. Finally, I'm glad that we could use new forensic techniques to solve old cases.

Hayley did an amazing job on this article. She conveyed the facts and all the important details about the story. However, there were two things she could've done to make the reader understand the story better. I thought hayley could add quotes. These quotes could possibly be about the technology or new forensic techniques they are doing in this case. I thought it would also be cool if she added suggestions for the forensic officers in charge of this case.

Overall, this was a very interesting article to read. I think it's really cool that we can use present day forensic techniques to help use with problems almost 80 years ago. This is a very intriguing case I will definitely keep up with the case as further conclusions are found.

Hayley analyzed her article very well. I appreciated that she included the description of the scan the police wants to use to analyze the knocks. I also appreciated that she was able to connect this to multiple other Holocaust stories. The potential the new scans have to uncover so many cases would be so impactful on our history. I appreciated her critique that there should have been more forensic description in the article.
There were two aspects of her review that she could improve on. I would’ve liked to see a quote or two from the article to get a direct perspective. I also wish she could’ve explained how the knock could convey who told the authorities they were hiding.
Overall, I thought it was a good review and I was very intrigued to hear of new research that could lead us to discover even more about our history.

I think Hayley's Article on Anne Frank's Hiding spot during World War ll was very well written. She does a awesome job of describing where Anne Frank's Hiding spot and how the police are using three-dimensional scan of the original house and using computer models to determine how far sounds might have traveled. If I would give her 2 tips to improve on it would be that I would of wanted to hear more about the Forensic science played into the events that happened to Anne Frank and how they were able to survive there so long with evidence. She could have also added more about the backstory and just more detail about all the police investigation and how there are looking into the house.

Haley did an excellent job in this article and she kept it very interesting. Picking it interesting topic especially an iconic story and a sad one she did a great job teaching us what really happened.

Hayley provided a very good analysis of the article. I really like how she added in parts of other Holocaust stories to tie in with the review. I do agree with her when she said that there should have been more forensic analysis in the article as I found that lacking. I also thought it was cool that they could find out how far sound would travel based on a scan of the building. However, I thought that she should have added some quotes. She also could have talked a little more about the forensic part of the story. I thought It was cool how we used modern technology to solve something that happened over 80 years ago. I really enjoyed Hayley's Article on Anne Frank's Hiding spot during World War ll. Hayley did a great job summarizing the story and providing lots of background details on the case being discussed. You also supplied the reader with very informative details and specific statistics. Lastly, I felt that you did a great job at explaining why it is relevant in modern society by explaining what forensic scientists could do wrong.

I believe your review could have been significantly better if your writing flowed better. It was slightly choppy and it felt like you were just listing facts. However, that being said, it allowed me to remember and understand your review more clearly. Also, I would have like to see more quotes from the author. It validates your points and with ethos, it makes your review more credible.

Overall I though Hayley did a great job with the article and this was a very interesting read. I also learned about the history of Anne Frank and how modern technology could solve ancient mysteries

Hayley Berry’s review on the article “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case.” by Christopher Schuetze was very fascinating. First of all, she made this review very interesting and informative by giving a lot of details about Anne Frank’s background story. Second, she related the topic to forensics very nicely and included her own point of view about the case and the informations in this article. Also, Hayley’s review was also very detailed in her description of how the police used a three-dimensional scan of the original house and used computer models to determine how far sounds could have traveled. These details were very helpful for the readers to see an image of the work of the police.

Even though there are many good things done in this review by Hayley, there are some areas of possible improvements. For example, she did not use any direct quotes from the original article. Using quotes can give her article more credibility. In addition, it would be nice if she could use more smooth transitional sentences between paragraphs.

This article was very meaningful because it showed how technologies in the forensics science field can help us to understand history better. It is theoretically possible to solve cases that happened a long time ago now, and this is very surprising to me.

Due November 17th 2017
Schuetze, Christopher F. “Who Betrayed Anne Frank? Former F.B.I. Agent Reopens a Cold Case.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 30 Oct. 2017. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/30/world/europe/anne-frank-cold-case-investigation.html
After reading Hayley’s review regarding the untold mystery on who betrayed the famous Anne Frank, my overall feeling was that I was very impressed with the work that Hayley put in with her review. There were many things that I liked with her article, however in particular, there were three factors which were included in her work which I took a great liking for. The first factor which I think Hayley did a great job at was the fact that she started off her review with a hook regarding Anne Frank’s betrayal by explaining the “hardships” that she went through during WWII. I liked this because not only do you jump right into analyzing the article, but you also set up a perfect hook to want to make the reader keep reading your review. The second factor which I also really enjoyed was that you cross referenced Anne Frank’s scenario to other scenarios where “families had to hide unground” so that they wouldn’t be captured by the Germans. By doing this, you also create a realistic picture on how terrifying it was in the 1940’s for Jewish Families who had to hide for their lives. A third factor which I enjoyed about your review was that unlike the other reviews I have read, your review has a structure- beginning, middle, end- that you follow. Which makes it not only chronological for the reader to follow, but makes it less complicated for us to follow.
While I enjoyed many things that you did in your review, I believe that you could have done a little better if you included these two major things. The first major thing that I think you should have included was perhaps a quote or two. By citing a quote, not only does it make your work better, but it also adds validity to your article. “She was right to be scared: Just months later, on Aug. 4, 1944, the police discovered the hide-out during a raid and arrest her and seven others living behind a movable bookcase” (Christopher Schueltz). Another factor which I also believe you could have also done a slightly better job at was perhaps adjusting your word structure to fit the values of your text better. I believe that by doing this not only do you reflect yourself as a great writer, but also helps you to integrate key information in essays and reviews that you might do later in your life.
Overall while there were some slightly minor issues that could have been improved, Hailey, I really enjoyed reading your article about how Anne Frank was tipped off. In addition this article touched me personally because not only did this article give me some inside information on how Anne Frank was tipped off, but it also makes us as individuals question both the good and dark sides about humanity. I chose this article because not only do I love the New York Times, but because I was intrigued and wanted to find out more information regarding what circumstances led to Anne Frank’s betrayal. Therefore I really think Haley did a great job at doing her article and I was very impressed with the work she put in, which not only made her work better, but it made me as the reader fascinated to learn more about Anne Frank’s demise because the fact that a human tipped off another human so that they could be put to death, perhaps to get money, is absolutely evil and sinful at the highest level.

I believe your review could have been better. One point for me was the flow, as some points it was slightly choppy and it felt like just listing factsa. Also, more quotes from the author would have made the review better. I learned quite a bit about Anne Frank and about how forensic scientists can be inaccurate
