Cohn, Julie. “The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 14 Oct. 2019, www.nytimes.com/2019/10/14/science/amelia-earhart-robert-ballard.html.
Written by Julie Cohn the article this article discusses the recent findings of Amelia Earhart and her plane. Robert Ballard, the ocean explorer famous for locating the wreck of the Titanic, led a team aboard the resesearch vessel Nautilus that discovered two hats in the depths. It found debris from an old shipwreck. It even spotted a soda can. What it did not find was a single piece of the Lockheed Electra airplane flown in 1937 by Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan, which vanished during their doomed voyage around the world. Dr. Hiebert’s team is hoping to use new techniques to identify evidence of mitochondrial DNA with similarities to Earhart’s living relatives in the 22 soil samples they collected. It is incredible how today we can still use small traces of DNA to try and track Earhart's body.

This article goes to show how important forensic evidence and developing technology is because it can have impacts 100 of years later. This article also did a nice job tying how important the DNA is to the case and how forensic made it possible.  I also liked how the article go to the point and was very clear.  At no point does the reader feel confused or bored.  Adding images also made the article very interesting.

If I Had to change this article I would just try and explain what the next step is in the research and investigation.  The article talked all about the past and what they found but failed to explain what is next. Overall, it was very interesting and I enjoyed it.

Jimmy’s review of the article The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep by Julie Cohn, he does an excellent job of mentioning every important detail expressed within the article that made its findings so significant. The article focused on how famous researcher and ocean expert Robert Ballard, the same man who has found the shipwrecked Titanic, located debris evidence that resulted from the same plane flown by the famous Amelia Earhart. Jimmy explained the relevance that this had to the story and what finding it now meant- With today's technology, scientists are able to use samples of DNA from the debris and soil evidence and connect it to Earhart’s family, and hopefully locate Amelia's body.

Jimmy also does an amazing job in that he explains these important details in a precise and easily understood manner, including the information that is vital to the research used. He even goes on to explain the significance of this article, explaining how much of an importance the advanced technology we have today is able to use evidence from something that occurred almost a century ago; “tying how important DNA is to the case and how forensic made it possible” Jimmy explains.

Overall, the article did an excellent job explaining not only the scientific aspect of the evidence found and its relevance to the story, but also pointing out the most interesting and shocking facts. While I did enjoy reading a short and precise summary of the article, having a little more details on some of the information given would be helpful to have a deeper and more coherent understanding of the reading.

Jimmy's audit of the article The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep by Julie Cohn, he works admirably of referencing each significant detail communicated inside the article that made its discoveries so huge. The article concentrated on how well-known specialists and sea master Robert Ballard, a similar man who has discovered the wrecked Titanic, found flotsam and jetsam proof that came about because of a similar plane flown by the acclaimed Amelia Earhart. Jimmy clarified the importance this had to the story and what discovering it currently implied With the present innovation, researchers can utilize tests of DNA from the flotsam and jetsam and soil prove and associate it to Earhart's family, and ideally find Amelia's body. Jimmy likewise works superbly in that he clarifies these significant subtleties in an exact and effectively got way, including the data that is crucial to the examination utilized. He even proceeds to clarify the hugeness of this article, clarifying the amount of significance the trend-setting innovation we have today can utilize proof from something that happened very nearly a century prior; "tying how significant DNA is to the case and how measurable made it conceivable" Jimmy clarifies.
By and large, the article worked admirably clarifying.

The review Jimmy Hennessy performed on the article: “The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep.”was very interesting and informative. he discusses the recent findings of Amelia Earhart and her plane. I like how he was straightforward with the information. When he stated that “Robert Ballard, the ocean explorer famous for locating the wreck of the Titanic, led a team aboard the research vessel Nautilus that discovered two hats in the depths” it was a good way to put the information because it was a bunch of information packed into one sentence. I also appreciate how he was able to captivate the reader by using captivating words in the beginning like titanic, explorer, and wreck. he did a good job stating why the article was relevant to society.
One thing Jimmy could improve on is explaining how and why he chose the article. He did not provide any reasoning behind his decision to write about it. Jimmy’s Analysis was also very short and didn't provide the detail she needed to do the article justice. He could provide a longer analysis that makes the reader feel he has read the full article and knows what it is about. He also did not quote the author, further questioning his ability. To improve, Jimmy could spend more time talking about the details explained as well as making more connections as to why he chose the article and insert quotes to deepen her analysis.
I chose this article because it was very interesting and I enjoy reading things like this. I also wanted to see Jimmy’s writing style as I have never looked at one of hid reviews before. By reading this article I learned about how today we can still use small traces of DNA to try and track Earhart's body. It will change my perception because now I have another piece of knowledge that I can use.

Jimmy’s review of the article “The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep” was informative and was good at ensuring that the reader knew what was going on without it being too confusing. I also liked how the summary was clear and concise but also included many details about the investigation in the ocean and potential new techniques that can be used to identify Amelia Earhart’s body. Lastly, the critique of the article was fair and upon looking at the article myself, I found that I agreed.
Despite all the positives, there were a couple of small improvements that could’ve been made. There were a couple of grammar mistakes, which can be addressed by finding a good free program that can help proofread one’s writing. Additionally, the article’s link was provided, but it wasn’t cited in MLA as was required. However, it is also a simple fix as there are many free websites, such as EasyBib, that can provide that service.
The Amelia Earhart mystery is one whose solution is sought after by people all over the world, and it was good to get some more information pertaining to the search. Additionally, the DNA technology that Jimmy described can be put to many more uses than just this, such as helping find a missing victim or suspect for a crime. Overall, the review was well done and the article was interesting enough that I would like to find out about related future developments.

Jimmy wrote a great review of Julie Cohn’s NY Times article: “The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep.” In particular, there were three aspects of his piece that I enjoyed. First, I really liked Jimmy’s style of writing. He was able to translate the relevant information with ease and sophistication. Second, I enjoyed Jimmy’s introductory paragraph. He did a fantastic job engaging the reader through his analysis of Amelia Earhant’s mysterious story. Third, I liked Jimmy’s critique of the original article in his second and third paragraphs. He provided accurate criticisms and areas for improvement, which I appreciated.

However, there are two parts of Jimmy’s review that I believe could be improved upon. First, I wish he had spoken to the relevance of this topic. Yes, it is incredibly interesting, but why should we care? Second, I think that Jimmy should have included more facts and possibly quotes from the original article. I wanted a bit more concrete information in that first paragraph.

While I was knowledgeable about Amelia Earhant and her intriguing story, I had never actually read an article about her, so I really enjoyed being able to learn more about her and these recent scientific breakthroughs.

For this week's current event I decided to read Jimmy's review of the article,
"The Amelia Earhart Mystery Stays Down in the Deep" by Julie Cohn.

After reading the review on this article I think she did a great job writing a very informative yet concise review about this article that articulated all the main points that a reader needs to know to understand what is going on. Another thing Jimmy did a great job doing in this review was highlighting the main points of the article, for example, he discussed the ocean expert Robert Ballard, who was able to find debris from Amelia Earhart's plane. Jimmy also wrote a very good critique of the author's article, which provided constructive criticism that could improve the author's article. I really enjoyed reading Jimmy's article but he was lacking a couple of things that I think would have really made his article stand out. One thing I wish was added in this review was direct quotes from the article which would increase the credibility of this review. I also wish that Jimmy discussed ways that this article could relate to our studies in forensics class.
Overall, I really enjoyed this review that Jimmy wrote, it was very well written and interesting to learn about.
