The article this week that I chose to read “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 Years
Ago Dug up From Cop Boyfriend’s Basement” written by Seth Augustine by Forensics
Magazine. In 1966 about 50 years ago, Louise Pietrewicz went to her bank and took out all of
the money out of her account and disappeared. She left behind the purse and was trying to get
out of a terrible marriage, The Cold Case sitting in a file room for 51 years until a local tip came
up from a woman who was having affair with Louise's husband. The tip ended up leaving
investigators to use sonar waves in the ground where they found a skull. “Cold cases are always,
always in play. We’re always looking at information we obtain.” Police had tried to dig up the
residence in 2013, but did not find anything. After the investigators dug up the skeleton, forensic
scientist were able to connect the DNA to Louise. The tip made by The Mistress of her husband
would end up helping the case, Louise's husband died in 1982 who was the lead suspect.

This is a absolutely reflection of how modern forensic science has helped the past , cold
cases like this that have been sitting in a file cabinet for 51 years are finally being able to be

solved because of technology today. Louise is murder was found with top of the line sonar
equipment. Showing there are many ways to use modern technology to help the past . More and
more cases like these are going to be solved in modern day, finally after many years some
justice can be served.

The author did a good job with the article, the one thing to critique him about is his
information used from the case. He talks about how she disappeared and how the body was
found but other things have been left out. The article was very informative but I would have
appreciated more info about the case.

For current event 22 I read Andrew Rotchford’s summary of the Forensic Magazine article entitled “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 Years Ago Dug up From Cop
Boyfriend’s Basement. I thought that Andrew did many things well in his review. I thought that ANdrew did a very good job summarizing important background information to make the story clear for the reader. His inclusion of direct quotes from the article also helped illuminate the detail of the story. I also enjoyed how he included how modern day forensic technology is impacting cold cases today.
To improve his summary of the article, Andrew could have made his voice more prominent throughout the entire of his writing. I also think that Andrew could have included more of his own opinion on forensic technology impacting these cases.
Overall I think that Andrew did a phenomenal job on his current event and I learned a lot about how old crimes are being solved with this new technology being released into the world.

Andrew Rotchford wrote a very interesting review on the article named the “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 Years Ago Dug up From Cop Boyfriend's Basement.” from the Forensic Magazine that is written by Seth Augustine. In this review, Andrew gave a descriptive summary to the readers first so that they can understand the entire case in a short read. In this article, the case is about an incident that happened about 50 years ago, and the people involved in this case are mostly dead already. After the summary, Andrew elaborated on why Forensic was a big part in this investigation for the readers. The lady involved in this case is named Louise Pietrewicz. To gather some information about her, the investigators had to “use sonar waves in the ground where they found a skull”. Another thing that Andrew did to help the readers better understand the article is that he used original quotes from the article. By doing that, the readers can have a more direct feeling about the incident.

Even though this review was very fun to read, there are two areas of possible improvement. First, it would be very helpful if Andrew can connect the equipments used in this case to the investigations we did in class. Also, it would be nice if Andrew can give a more detailed description about why the technology was important in this case and what might have happened if the technology was developed earlier and can be used to solve this case years ago.

I enjoyed reading this article. It is very surprising how modern technology is a huge part of every field of science now and how much it had helped scientists to collect accurate data. It is also amazing how a case that happened so many years ago can be solved rather easily using the modern technological devices.

Andrew wrote a great review of the article “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 years Ago Dug up From Cop Boyfriend’s Basement” by Seth Augustine. Andrew developed an accurate summary of this article. In addition, he incorporated lots of details and evidence to support his claims. For instance, he states “Cold cases are always, always in play. We’re always looking at information we obtain.” Lastly, he includes evidence from the article to support his arguments.
Andrew wrote a very good review on this article, however, there are a few places in which he can improve. To start with, I wish Andrew incorporated more quotes from the article into his review. Also, if Andrew wanted to take his review to the next level, he could include outside research, which would also make his review more interesting.
By reading his review on the article “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 years Ago Dug up From Cop Boyfriend’s Basement” by Seth Augustine, I expanded my knowledge on forensic science. Prior to reading this review, I was unaware of this topic. Overall, Andrew’s review is very good and shows a great understanding of this article.

Andrew did a nice job with his current events report on “Long Island Woman Who Vanished 50 years Ago Dug up From Cop Boyfriend’s Basement” by Seth Augustine. Andrew’s summary of the article was thorough and well written. I liked that Andrew talked about the relevant technology and connected that to the bigger picture that technology is really important in all fields. Andrew’s writing overall is very precise and clear, and is easy to read.

Andrew’s article could have improved if he had incorporated more quotes. Andrew could have also elaborated on some of the technologies in class and described them in more detail.

From this review I learned about the extent of the data that forensic technology can collect. These advancements are groundbreaking and important.
